Russell Wilson Unfairly Disrespected in Tweet About Player Arrests

Russell Wilson has become a national lampoon and much of it isn't fair.

Russell Wilson had easily his worst season as an NFL quarterback with the Denver Broncos in 2022. Wilson has to carry plenty of blame for the atrocities of last season, but analysts and keyboard warriors are dragging him for simply existing.

To look at the mud slung at Wilson, we must enter the pigsty known as social media. It's time to wallow, folks.

Pro Football Network posted this tweet of the 32 NFL starting quarterbacks. Wilson is listed just before first-round bust Baker Mayfield and the three top rookie quarterbacks selected in the 2023 draft.

So are we to believe that Desmond Ridder and Jordan Love have established themselves enough to be ranked ahead of Wilson? Love was drafted in 2020 and is only now starting for the Green Bay Packers. Sure, Aaron Rodgers was still in town. Still, finding any glowing endorsement of the young signal caller was nearly impossible until he was named the default starter for the upcoming season.

As for Ridder, he is still a relatively unknown commodity, as he only started four games as a rookie. Kenny Pickett is also above Wilson, with a 7-9 touchdown-to-interception ratio, which is... interesting.

Even if PFN is projecting for next season, how could you look at Denver acquiring Sean Payton and upgrades across the offensive line and think he’ll be the 28th-best quarterback in the league?

This post, in particular, embodies the Russell Wilson hate mob. Besides the data being incorrect, as the Minnesota Vikings lead the pack in player arrests with 55 since 2000, according to Box Score News, they also put Russell front and center.

The man has only been with the Broncos for one of the twenty-three years cited, but most importantly, he has never been arrested. Numerous Broncos could have been pictured in the post, but Wilson again becomes the punchline.

Is it corny to post your workouts during the offseason? Yes. Does it make a difference in the grand scheme of things? Absolutely not. Wilson looks visibly leaner, but analysts like Robert Griffin III feel the need to chime in.

This might be funny if RG3 had more credibility as an NFL quarterback, but that isn’t the case. One great season from Griffin compared to Wilson, who has been to two Super Bowls and won one?

At least Griffin is punching up, I guess. After Wilson was clowned for showing up to camp a bit heftier last season, you would think trimming down would be something to celebrate.

But Wilson couldn’t escape the social media circus during the season, and the same goes for the offseason. Whether it be NFL analysts or popular Twitter accounts, they love to clown on 'goofball' Wilson.

It's much easier to pile on someone than to give them the benefit of the doubt and lift them up. As we know, numerous clowns can fit in a funny little car, and it just so happens this one is named the RW3 Hate Wagon.
