Free agency is fully underway in the 2024 NFL offseason and there already have been a ton of big moves made in just the first day. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers likely won’t make any big splash moves during the free agency period as they want to bring back many of the guys who were on their roster last season, but they were able to keep three of the biggest stars on the team from even entering free agency in S Antoine Winfield Jr., WR Mike Evans, and QB Baker Mayfield.

The Bucs stood pat in their plan thus far and just announced they would be re-signing defensive tackle Greg Gaines to a one-year deal worth $3.5 million.

Gaines has been a steady rotational piece along the defensive line since being drafted by the Los Angeles Rams in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft. After spending his first four seasons in LA, Gaines signed with the Bucs just prior to the 2023 season. He was a key component in the depth along the defensive line and recorded 24 tackles, one sack, and a forced fumble.

Gaines’ productivity wasn’t quite as high as it was back with the Rams, but as mentioned, he will provide great depth along the d-line in a room that includes Vita Vea, Calijah Kancey, and Logan Hall. With Gaines re-signing, it could mean we see the end of William Gholston’s career in Tampa Bay.
