Buccaneers Hosting Houston Texans Veteran Free Agent Cornerback
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers recently traded cornerback Carlton Davis III to the Detroit Lions, and as a result, they've been working to shore up their cornerback room ahead of the NFL Draft come April. The team recently brought in former Jets cornerback Bryce Hall, and now, they're hosting another free agent cornerback for a visit.
Tampa Bay is set to host former Houston Texans cornerback Tavierre Thomas on a visit, per ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. Should Thomas be signed, he'd be the fifth free agency signing outside of the organization so far this offseason. Thomas also recently visited with the Lions.
Thomas has been in the NFL for six years, splitting his time three years each between the Cleveland Browns and then, most recently, the Houston Texans. He played 30.88% of defensive snaps for the Texans last year, but he also has some value in special teams, playing 28.97% of snaps there.
In his career so far, Thomas has had 144 solo tackles, 81 assists, one sack, two fumble recoveries and two interceptions in six years. Both of those interceptions came in 2021, when he played in all 17 games. Thomas would look to be a good depth signing for Tampa Bay and could be a part of a strong foundation should Tampa Bay draft a cornerback in the draft next month.
