Tampa Bay Buccaneers Bring Back Veteran Running Back in Free Agency
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have taken this start of free agency to focus on retaining their own players, and the team took another step in that direction late on Monday when the legal tampering period began.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on Monday that running back Chase Edmonds is re-signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on a one-year deal. The deal is a low-commitment re-signing that allows the Bucs to maintain some depth in the running back room behind starting RB Rachaad White.
Edmonds dealt with injuries during his first campaign with Tampa Bay, missing four games, but he was a producer later in the year in a rotational role once he came back. He finished the year without any touchdowns, but he did manage 3.6 yards per carry and averaged 5.8 yards per reception in the passing game.
As it stands, the running back room in Tampa Bay consists of White, Edmonds and 2023 undrafted free agent Sean Tucker. It's possible that the Bucs could add another running back in the draft or free agency to serve as a third-down back or a power back, but the room should look extremely similar going forward in 2024 as Tampa Bay continues to prioritize locking down its own free agents.
