New Article Says Buccaneers Should Trade Up In 2024 NFL Draft
Should the Bucs use their resources to trade up?
Jason Licht has never been one to trade up in the NFL Draft, but some people really seem to want him to do so.
Just a little bit after ESPN recommended the Bucs trade up from pick No. 26, CBS Sports released a similar article with the same premise, deciding whether or not each team in the NFL should trade up, down, or stay put. Like ESPN, CBS Sports recommended that the Bucs trade up.
Here's what CBS Sports writer Cody Benjamin said about Tampa Bay's hypothetical decision:
"The Bucs are running it back with Baker Mayfield and the gang. But they haven't necessarily made major upgrades on either side of the ball. A move up could help them land a difference-making pass rusher or cover man."
There is some truth to the statement. The Bucs mostly focused on running it back this offseason, retaining pretty much all of its major talent across the board. That being said, the team has holes, and edge rusher and cornerback are two that Tampa Bay certainly needs to address as Benjamin mentioned.
That being said, general manager Jason Licht doesn't seem to keen on trading up, if his pre-draft press conference is anything to go by. Trading up usually costs capital, and Licht seems to want to hold on to that.
"I would say right now, I like the thought of the way I really have a lot of trust in my staff – both the coaching staff and the scouting staff – and how we’ve been operating," Licht said. "Those picks seem pretty important to me right now.”
We won't know for sure until April 25, when the first round of the NFL Draft begins in Detroit.
