Buccaneers Bring In Georgia Bulldogs Safety For Top 30 Visit

Todd Bowles may be a familiar with this Georgia Bulldogs defensive back.

Due diligence is the name of the game when it comes to pre-draft visits, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are bringing in a name that their head coach may be a little familiar with.

The NFL's Ian Rapoport reported on Tuesday that the Bucs are bringing in safety Tykee Smith for a Top 30 visit. Smith has been with the Georgia Bulldogs since 2021 after starting his college career at West Virginia.

Bowles may be familiar with Smith due to the fact that he's teammates with Bowles' son. Todd Bowles' son Troy currently plays inside linebacker for the Georgia Bulldogs, and he's been teammates with Smith — as a result, there could be some familiarly there, given that Bowles has been around his son in Athens quite a few times.

At the moment, though, a safety would be an interesting pick for Tampa Bay. The team just recently put the franchise tag on Antoine Winfield Jr. with the intention of signing him to a long-term deal, and it also just brought safety Jordan Whitehead back to Tampa Bay after a two-year absence with the New York Jets. As a result, Smith likely wouldn't start right away, so picking him would be an interesting choice for the Bucs.

Nevertheless, insurance is always important. If the Bucs like Smith, they could take him in the 2024 NFL Draft on Day 2 or Day 3.
