Report: Former Buccaneer Leonard Fournette Was Speeding, Racing Prior To Car Catching Fire

Fournette is staying in the headlines as he continues to search for a new home as a free agent.

Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Leonard Fournette is still searching for a new home after being released earlier this year. In the meantime, he's stayed in the headlines for his recent appearance on Good Morning Football and an incident on the road.

Last month, Fournette's car caught on fire seemingly at random while he was driving on I-275. At the time, he commented on the freak occurrence on his Instagram.

"Man it was one of those days today, but I would like to thank God, my car caught on fire while I was driving, But I'am still blessed (prayer emoji, heart emoji)"

However, according to a report from TMZ, the former Buccaneer was driving at a high rate of speed and swerving in and out of lanes while racing in his vehicle prior to the incident.

A witness of the chaos told police that he saw Fournette's vehicle and a motorcycle racing and changing lanes. The two vehicles were driving erratically when fire became visible at the bottom of Fournette's car, forcing him to slow down and pull over while the motorcycle continued driving.

The report went on to state that no further investigation was conducted by police and that Fournette isn't expected to face any type of charges.

This is good news for the veteran running back, who remains one of the best available free agents at his position alongside Dalvin Cook, Ezekiel Elliott, and Kareem Hunt. Fournette is coming off a season where he averaged the second-worst mark of his career in average yards per game.

Fournette rushed for 89 yards and a score in Tampa Bay's Super Bowl LV victory against the Kansas City Chiefs. During his six years in the NFL with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Buccaneers, he's rushed 1,132 times for 4,478 yards with 34 touchdowns on the ground while catching 312 passes for 2,219 yards and seven more scores.
