Cardinals Draft CB Garrett Williams in Third Round

With their first pick in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft, the Arizona Cardinals select Syracuse DB Garrett Williams.

TEMPE -- The Arizona Cardinals kicked off the final round of action for Day 2 in he 2023 NFL Draft with the selection of Syracuse DB Garrett Williams.

The Cardinals initially had the No. 81 pick before a trade with the Tennessee Titans earlier today saw them swap picks in the second and third round, allowing the Cardinals to move up to No. 72 in the third while also securing a 2024 third-round pick.

Arizona lost top cornerback Byron Murphy but have two corners they like in Marco Wilson and Antonio Hamilton. However, you can never have enough corner depth.

Williams' NFL.com scouting profile reads as follows:

"Outside cornerback with the footwork/athleticism to match routes with good balance and smooth transitions. Williams possesses average size but can be a willing tackler when the opportunity arises. He can mirror and match the release but is inconsistent playing with his back to the quarterback. On the flip side, he’s instinctive and twitchy from zone and off-man but must become more aggressive at attacking passing lanes rather than playing the man. He suffered an ACL tear in October 2022, but if his pre-draft medical exams check out, he could go in the middle rounds and have a chance to become a CB3."

Thus far, the Cardinals' draft class looks like:

Round 1, Pick 6: Ohio State OL Paris Johnson Jr.

Round 2, Pick 41: LSU EDGE BJ Ojulari

Round 3, Pick 72: Syracuse DB Garrett Williams.

Arizona also has picks 94 and 96 near the bottom of the third round to conclude Day 2.
