Cardinals' Extra First-Round Pick Finally Cemented

The Arizona Cardinals will be picking at No. 27 in the 2024 NFL Draft thanks to the Houston Texans.

ARIZONA -- The Arizona Cardinals knew they'd be picking at No. 4 in the 2024 NFL Draft for weeks now, though uncertainty surrounded their extra first-round pick thanks to the postseason success of the Houston Texans.

Now, the dust has finally settled.

With Houston's loss to the Baltimore Ravens and a win from the Detroit Lions, the Cardinals will be picking at No. 27 in the first round. The pick potentially could have climbed up to No. 25.

Many thought Arizona had a strong chance of picking twice in the top five, as Houston was again expected to be at the bottom of the barrel.

However, rookie head coach DeMeco Ryans and rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud shocked nearly everyone by not only making the postseason, but also winning a playoff game.

Entering Week 18, Houston's pick sat in the late teens.

Now, it's nearly at the end of the first round.

Disappointing for Arizona - sure - though there's still plenty of talented players that will be available. The Cardinals could make good on their newfound position and use Houston's pick as trade collateral for teams wanting to jump back in the first to gain that coveted fifth-year option.

Arizona is slated to have 10+ picks in the 2024 NFL Draft, six of which will come in the first three rounds.
