The Arizona Cardinals announced today the release of wide receiver Javon Wims. This comes two days after the team signed XFL receiver Brandon Smith.

Wims (28-years-old) first entered the league as a seventh-round pick with the Chicago Bears in 2018. He spent three seasons in the Windy City before before a brief stint with the Las Vegas Raiders (2021-22) before being signed to Arizona's practice squad in September of last year. He signed a reserve/future contract back in January.

Even without DeAndre Hopkins, Arizona's receiver's room is still a bit crowded when it comes to names. After Marquise Brown, the Cardinals' depth chart still features names such as Rondale Moore, Greg Dortch, Zach Pascal and Michael Wilson.

They'll need to step up in a major way, especially with Kyler Murray still recovering from his ACL injury. The Cardinals will look to either Colt McCoy, David Blough or Clayton Tune to feed their receivers.

Arizona just finished mandatory minicamp and will begin training camp on July 27.
