Cardinals Sign New Defensive Lineman

The Arizona Cardinals are bringing on a new defensive lineman.

ARIZONA -- The Arizona Cardinals are bringing on a new defensive lineman, the team announced.

"The Arizona Cardinals Football Club today announced that the team has signed defensive lineman Khyiris Tonga (KYE-riss) to a one-year contract. The signing took place today at the Dignity Health Arizona Cardinals Training Center in Tempe, AZ," said the Cardinals in an official press release.

Financial terms of the deal are not yet known.

"Tonga (6-4, 338) played 14 games (two starts) with Minnesota last season and had 15 tackles, one tackle for loss and two quarterback hits. He has played 40 games (six starts) in his career and has 67 tackles, three tackles for loss, four quarterback hits, four passes defensed, a half sack and one fumble recovery. The 27-year old Tonga entered the league with Chicago as a seventh-round pick (250th overall) in the 2021 NFL Draft from BYU and played 15 games as a rookie with the Bears before playing 25 games over the past two seasons with the Vikings."

Tonga joins recent defensive line additions Bilal Nichols and Justin Jones.

The Cardinals have also brought in names such as Mack Wilson and Sean Murphy-Bunting to help bolster an Arizona defense that needed a vast overhaul.
