The Arizona Cardinals have officially announced a trade with the New York Giants.

"The Arizona Cardinals Football Club today announced that the team has agreed to a trade with the New York Giants.

"Pending the passing of a physical, safety Isaiah Simmons will go to the Giants in exchange for a seventh-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft."

The move comes months after the Cardinals declined Simmons' fifth-year option in the offseason under a new regime of general manager Monti Ossenfort and head coach Jonathan Gannon.

He will be a free agent after this season.

Simmons - drafted as a top ten pick out of Clemson - never got to reach his full potential while in the desert, being played at a multitude of positions that included inside linebacker, safety and nickel corner.

Perhaps he can reach new heights on the Giants, a team fresh off a postseason appearance looking to add some defensive versatility.

New York visits State Farm Stadium in Week 2 of the regular season.

The move comes ahead of Arizona's preseason finale with the Minnesota Vikings on Saturday. The Cardinals will have one more joint practice with the team before a walk-thru on Friday.
