Former Cardinals DL Corey Peters Retires

Arizona Cardinals DL Corey Peters calls it quits after over a decade in the National Football League.

Former Arizona Cardinals DL Corey Peters is calling it quits after over a decade in the NFL, he announced on social media today.

Peters first entered the league as a third-round pick out of Kentucky in the 2010 NFL Draft, where he was taken by the Atlanta Falcons. He spent five seasons in Atlanta before initially inking a three-year deal with the Cardinals, ultimately missing his first season with the team in 2015 due to injury.

From 2015-21, Peters spent time in Arizona. He had his best season in 2018 where he garnered 51 combined tackles and 2.5 sacks in 15 games with one fumble recovered as well.

He signed to the Jacksonville Jaguars last season, where he played in 12 games.

Peters earned an estimated $28.6 million in salary over his 12-year career according to Spotrac. He will turn 35 years old this June.

Peters was mostly well received by fans here in the desert when he played, though the Cardinals have yet to truly find a dominant defensive tackle despite seeing talented pass rushers come and go off the edge.

With eight picks in the 2023 NFL Draft, perhaps new general manager Monti Ossenfort will find one to work with and help start the rebuild in Arizona after a disaster 4-13 season that saw head coach Kliff Kingsbury fired the day after the season ended.
