Chargers Nab Pro-Ready Big-12 Center in New Mock Draft

The Los Angeles Chargers hold the fifth overall selection in the upcoming NFL Draft but they have more needs than just the one hole that will be filled with the pick. Los Angeles has talked about moving down in round one to gain more draft capital but they do have eight other picks currently to help improve the team.

Their second-round selection comes in at pick No. 37, so it's almost like a late first-round selection. The Bolts are likely to take a wide receiver and offensive lineman with their first two picks, helping them shore up some of their more pressing matters.

In a new mock draft by Chargers Wire, the Bolts beef up their interior offensive line by taking a center. Los Angeles selects center Zach Frazier out of West Virginia in this scenario, giving them some real depth at the position.

"The Chargers signed Bradley Bozeman, but they won’t shy away from selecting the long-term fix at the position, especially since Jim Harbaugh wants to build through the trenches. One of the top centers in this year’s class, Frazier is a pro-ready player with the athletic ability, anchor strength, highly impressive awareness and toughness. He started 47 games for the Mountaineers, so he possesses plenty of experience playing the position."

With new head coach Jim Harbaugh in the mix now, the Bolts are likely to build along the trenches. Their offensive line gave them multiple issues this past season, making it a priority this offseason.

Frazier would give them a long-term option at the center position, something that is lacking at this time for the team. He uses his strength to anchor the line, something that Harbaugh loves from his offensive front.

Assuming the Bolts take a wide-out in the first, this would be a home run pick for them. Frazier is the kind of center that the Chargers should be looking to build around for the long haul, given his size and athleticism. The Chargers have a lot of work to do in the draft but making sure they set themselves up for the future is of the utmost importance.
