Chargers Special Teams Coordinator Looking Forward to Challenge This Season

In this story:

The Los Angeles Chargers have their work cut out for them this coming season, as they try to get back to a place of contention. With new head coach Jim Harbaugh now in the mix, there is a new sense around the Bolts.

But the roster still needs some work. They plan to use the upcoming NFL Draft to bolster the depth of the team and plug any holes along the roster. But football is a multi-step game as the offense, defense and special teams all need to be humming for consistent success.

Special teams coordinator Ryan Ficken knows this and is determined to help the team succeed. He is ready to embrace the challenge ahead and get the guys ready to go for when the games matter.

"My biggest philosophy is I want to put these guys in positions to be successful," Ficken said. "There will be a lot of moving parts in terms of trying to get that edge and learning it.

If the Chargers can get their special teams to be a strength of the team, it would take a major burden off the rest of the squad. Los Angeles won't be able to turn into contenders overnight most likely but it's all about growing in year one with a new coaching staff.

"There's going to be some growing pains in it, but we have a foundation of how we want to attack it and that's what we're trying to lean on," Ficken added.

The Bolts do have some talent on the team but it may not be enough. However, with a solid foundation put in place, the sky can be the limit for this team moving forward.
