Chargers News: LA Coach Believes This Fresh Signing Could Be Top 6 At His Position

The Los Angeles Chargers have spent this offseason looking for different ways to rebuild their roster. After a frustrating 5-12 finish to last season, the Bolts decided it was time to create a shift in how they approach everything.

The team brought in a new head coach, Jim Harbaugh, to lead the charge and he has started to build the roster with his type of players. Harbaugh loves to build the running game behind strong offensive line play, so he needs a good blocking tight end. The team signed veteran Hayden Hurst to a deal, giving them a solid pass catcher, who could also step in to block when needed.

Chargers run game coordinator and tight end coach Andy Bischoff spoke about Hurst and said that he believes the veteran can be a top tight end in the league this season. With the way the Bolts plan to use their passing game, Hurst should be able to rack up yards if he can remain healthy.

Hurst spent last season with the Carolina Panthers, only playing in nine games. He posted 18 catches for 184 yards and one touchdown. But his 2022 season was much more productive while with the Cincinnati Bengals.

The veteran posted 52 catches for 414 yards and two scores playing under quarterback Joe Burrow. Now he will get to play alongside Justin Herbert, opening the potential for more numbers this season.

If he can stay on the field, Hurst will bring a new element to the Chargers offense. He is very good at getting into open space and the hope is that he can be a security blanket option for Herbert all year.
