Ranking Chargers Three Best First Round Options One Week Ahead of NFL Draft

The 2024 NFL Draft is just one week away and we still have no idea about all the madness that will take place. The Los Angeles Chargers are expected to be one of the more active teams, starting with their first-round pick at No. 5. The Bolts have multiple options they could take, including potentially trading down to receive more draft capital.

The Bolts have been linked to taking either a wide receiver or offensive lineman if they keep the 5th overall pick. They have multiple holes around the roster that need to be plugged so this draft is crucial to their future success.

Here is a look at the three best options for the Chargers as the draft quickly approaches.

3. Grab an offensive lineman, such as Joe Alt from Notre Dame

With the offensive line being one of the more important positions in football, the Chargers could look to build through the trenches early on. Getting someone like Alt would instantly bolster their offensive front and would be how head coach Jim Harbaugh likes to build his teams.

Alt is one of the most "pro-ready" talents in this draft so from day one, the Bolts could feel good about their pick. This would help protect their quarterback and help the running game as well. This isn't a bad option at all but there are a few better ones that the Chargers could look into.

2. Trade back, gain more draft capital

If the Bolts are dead-set on addressing multiple holes, trading back could be a good solution. They have been often linked with the Minnesota Vikings, who hold two first-round picks this year. If the Chargers could grab an extra first, they could select both a wide receiver and an offensive lineman in the first-round.

This may be the smartest option for the Bolts to take, simply due to all the issues they have along the roster. However, the Chargers front office wants to make a splash, and the temptation to take one of the star wide-outs at the top of the draft may be too heavy.

1. Grab either Malik Nabers out of LSU or Marvin Harrison Jr. from Ohio State

If the Chargers are going to stand pat at pick No. 5, they have to take a wide receiver. While the draft class has multiple talented options, both Harrison Jr. and Nabers are game-changers in their own right. Either one of them would give star quarterback Justin Herbert a true No. 1 receiver to throw the ball too.

Both players dominated in college and made their marks to possibly be selected this early. The Bolts need help at the wide receiver position in the worst way, so nabbing one of these two-star wide-outs is the best option for them.
