Chargers News: Bolts Officially Sign CB Kristian Fulton

The Los Angeles Chargers have officially signed cornerback Kristian Fulton, the team announced Thursday. After agreeing to terms with the Chargers earlier this month, Fulton now officially joins a Chargers free agency class that includes new additions linebacker Denzel Perryman, LB Troy Dye, defensive lineman Poona Ford, offensive lineman Bradley Bozeman, tight end Hayden Hurst, TE Will Dissly and running back Gus Edwards.

Fulton is a high-upside cornerback coming to the Chargers after spending the first four seasons of his career with the Tennessee Titans. The former second-round pick is coming off his worst season as a pro, in which recorded no interceptions and gave up a 75.5% completion rate and 114.1 passer rating when targeted in 2023.

However, Fulton has shown great potential the two seasons prior. In 2022, Fulton recorded two interceptions, five breakups, and 48 tackles. He allowed just a 52.4% completion rate and 82.8 passer rating when targeted. His best year was likely his second season when he recorded a career-high two interceptions and 14 pass breakups while allowing just a 51.4% completion percentage and a 71.3 passer rating when targeted. Both rates were the best of his career.

This is also a strong pickup for the Chargers, who need cornerback depth. Though the Chargers have solid safeties with the re-signed Alohi Gilman and the great Derwin James, they don't have the same consistency at corner. The Chargers have Asante Samuel Jr., but could use a quality corner opposite him.

The other smart aspect of this deal is the Chargers signed Fulton to just a one-year deal. After their previous cornerback splurge in a five-year, $82.5 million contract to J.C. Jackson backfired quickly with Jackson lasting less than two years on the team, the organization has made a much wiser and more appropriate investment in Fulton.
