Chargers Land Star CB, WR After Trading Back In Fresh CBS Mock Draft

The Los Angeles Chargers are looking to shore up pretty much every position save one via this month's NFL draft. So it makes (some) sense, I suppose, even in a stacked draft that's top-heavy with incredible wide receivers (while LA offloaded its two best wide receivers earlier this offseason), for the team to trade down from the No. 5 selection to obtain picks, and thus additional cheap help. Pete Prisco of CBS Sports, as many before him have done, submits that the Bolts will do just that in his latest mock draft.

Prisco predicts that Los Angeles will flip the fifth pick to the Minnesota Vikings for the Nos. 11 and 23 selections in the first round.

With the No. 11 pick, Prisco projects the Chargers to draft Toledo cornerback Quinyon Mitchell.

"They have corner issues in a division with Patrick Mahomes, even after landing Kristian Fulton in free agency," Prisco writes. "It's time to get an upgrade in Quinyon Mitchell, who is the top corner in this draft. They could consider an offensive lineman here as well," Prisco writes.

With the No. 23 pick following this theoretical deal, Prisco thinks Los Angeles will select the other LSU wide receiver expected to be picked in the first round of this year's draft, Brian Thomas Jr. Los Angeles could also just, you know, stand pat and draft Thomas' LSU teammate Malik Nabers, the better prospect, with the fifth selection, but let's hear Prisco out.

"They need to get more help outside for Justin Herbert. Brian Thomas Jr. is a long receiver who can fly," Prisco suggests. "So they would add a top corner and receiver from trading down."
