Do The Chargers Truly Need To Shore Up WR Position In Draft?

After deciding to ditch the pricey contracts of their two best wide receivers this offseason in six-time Pro Bowler Keenan Allen (who was flipped to the Chicago Bears for a fourth round draft pick) and injury-prone zero-time Pro Bowler Mike Williams (who was cut), the Los Angeles Chargers now face something of a deficit at the position.

The best, most experienced receiver rostered, by far, is veteran wideout Joshua Palmer, who caught 143 catches for a total sum of 1,703 yards and nine touchdowns. 2023 rookies Quentin Johnston and Derius Davis (who was named a Pro Bowler mostly thanks to his stellar turn as a return specialist) also have some upside. But Los Angeles has nine picks in this month's impending draft.

ESPN's Jordan Reid informs Eric Smith of Chargers.com that he's convinced the Bolts may elect to draft multiple wide receivers in the draft this season to address the issue and give Pro Bowl quarterback Justin Herbert's rocket arm some more help.

"They need some help," Reid said. "I still think they need multiple new guys in that room so it wouldn't be surprising to see them double dip at wide receiver."

"That could be at No. 5 [LA's top pick in the draft], or they could take two guys on Day 2 or Day 3. It just depends on how they want to address it," Reid noted.
