Chargers News: Bolts Plan to Interview Dallas Cowboys DC for HC Vacancy

Chargers to interview top head coach candidate this offseason.

As your Los Angeles Chargers are officially underway in their 2024 NFL offseason and are looking to fill their head coach vacancy, it appears they are planning to interview Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

Quinn, 53, is the former head coach of the Atlanta Falcons and was also the defensive coordinator of the Seattle Seahawks during the "Legion of Boom" era. The Chargers are one of three teams who have already put in coaching requests for Quinn.

Before deciding to remain with the Cowboys last offseason, Quinn was considered for a few head coaching jobs. Right now, CBS Sports has him ranked as the fifth-best coach available this offseason.

Since taking over as the DC in Dallas, two years ago, Dallas has consistently been one of the best defenses in the NFL and was ranked as a top five this past season.

Aside from Micah Parsons, one of the bright spots of the Cowboys' defense this season has been the emergence of cornerback DaRon Bland who started to see time as a full-time starter after two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Trevon Diggs went down with a torn ACL in practice this season.

Since stepping in, Bland has led the NFL in interceptions (9) and also interceptions for touchdowns (5), which could be credited to the coaching success of Quinn.

Bland is one of many players that Quinn has developed over his short time in Dallas.

Bringing him to the Chargers could make a huge impact on LA's defense as they ranked 28th in the NFL, giving up an average of 362.9 yards per game and gave up a total of 47 touchdowns. The Cowboys defense gave up an average of 299.7 yards per game and allowed 36 touchdowns.

Seeing Quinn coach a defense that features names like Joey Bosa, Asantae Samuel Jr., Derwin James, and Khalil Mack -- who is coming off a historic year for LA -- could be a match made in heaven. Chargers fans would likely never have to worry about blowing a lead late in a game again.
