Chargers News: Brandon Staley Makes Hall Of Fame Case For Khalil Mack

The former Defensive Player of the Year reminded the league on Sunday.

Entering Week 4 of your Los Angeles Chargers' 2023 NFL season, veteran linebacker Khalil Mack had no sacks on the year and seemed to be off to a slow start in his second year with the team.

That all changed after four quarters.

Mack registered six sacks against his former team the Las Vegas Raiders and reminded fans and coaches alike why he is one of the best defensive players in the league.

After the game, head coach Brandon Staley talked about how Mack should be getting the same Hall of Fame consideration as other top veteran edge rushers.

“I just know that if Von’s a Hall of Famer, Khalil Mack’s a Hall of Famer,” Staley says. “That’s just the easiest comparison. If Von’s going in the Hall first ballot, so is Khalil.”

Mack was all over the field on Sunday and it showed making a huge impact to help the Chargers secure their second win of the season.

Staley drew the comparison between Khalil Mack and star edge rusher Von Miller.

Miller entered the league in 2011 and since then has put up 123.5 career sacks in 161 games played. Miller won Defensive Rookie of the Year as well as earning three All-Pro 1st Teams so far.

Mack entered the league in 2014 and since then has registered 90.5 career sacks. While Mack did not win Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2014 he did win the Defensive Player of the Year award in 2016 with the then-Oakland Raiders.

Mack has made the All-Pro First Team three times as well.

While Mack is a little behind in counting stats he is also two years younger than Miller so longevity may be put into play and if Mack puts together a few more good years he may surpass Miller's numbers as they are today.

Both players are amazing and Chargers fans should be thankful that Mack is no longer rushing a Chargers QB.
