Chargers Announce International Fan of the Year Honor

LA headed Down Under for its pick.

Your Los Angeles Chargers have picked Melbourne, Australia Bolts fanatic Stephen Ruane as their representative for this year's International Fan of the Year, writes Omar Navarro of Chargers.com. Each of the NFL's 32 clubs elects one applicant to serve in such a capacity.

Ruane will rep Los Angeles during next month's 2024 NFL draft. He will even get to announce one of the team's draft picks during the proceedings.

Chargers kicker Cameron Dicker informed Ruane of his selection.

"I was blindsided by it… totally blindsided," Ruane said. "I just didn't know what was going on... Then super excited after that, after it all sort of started sinking in."

Ruane went on to discuss his ritual for checking out contests Down Under.

"Monday morning's our time, it's like 3:00 a.m., 4:00 a.m., so there's a lot of early wake ups to watch the games," Ruane revealed. "But [the Chargers] being on the West Coast, a lot of the daytime game start around 7 a.m. here."

"Full butterflies in my stomach," Ruane reflected regarding the prospect of announcing a draft selection this year for his favorite team. "I've had them for the last few days. Just trying to really get my ahead around it. It's still unbelievable.
