Andy Reid Provides Chiefs Injury Updates Following Win Against Browns

Reid had updates on Leo Chenal, Kadarius Toney and others after the team's final preseason outing.

The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Cleveland Browns on Saturday afternoon, and they did so with multiple players exiting the contest due to injuries. Fortunately for them, though, none of the ailments are expected to be long-term issues.

Head coach Andy Reid provided some injury updates after Saturday's win in the preseason finale, listing six different Chiefs who went down during the game.

The most notable of Kansas City's Saturday injuries was Chenal's, as the second-year linebacker appeared to have a bit of trouble getting off the field following a fumble recovery in the first quarter. He was ruled questionable to return shortly thereafter but to begin the second half (and possibly due to the nature of a preseason outing compared to a regular-season one), he got downgraded to out.

Elsewhere, linebacker Cole Christiansen was slow to get up after participating in a play on the sideline and fellow linebackers Cam Jones and Olakunle Fatukasi suffered concussions very close together in the fourth quarter. Wide receiver Cornell Powell and rookie offensive tackle Wanya Morris, dealing with respective hamstring and shoulder injuries, should be fine in due time.

Things are looking up for Kadarius Toney, Nic Jones

Wide receiver Kadarius Toney, who suffered a meniscus injury during a warm-up drill on the first day of full-team training camp, hasn't practiced or played in any games during the month of August. There was initial optimism that the third-year offensive weapon would be able to return in time for Week 1, although things haven't always been certain on that front. They still aren't, but Reid spoke positively about Toney when asked whether there's a chance he will return to practice in the very near future.

"Possibly," Reid said. "Possibly. We'll just see. We're kind of taking that one day by day, but he's doing great right now."

The final piece of injury-related news Reid shared on Saturday was that cornerback Nic Jones, who suffered fractured fingers in his left hand during the club's preseason opener against the Arizona Cardinals, didn't need surgery. That's a good development for Kansas City's seventh-round draft pick from earlier this year, as he showed some promise during camp and in his first career preseason game. As the Chiefs work to cut their roster down to 53 players in accordance with the league's Tuesday afternoon deadline, perhaps there's a chance that Jones factors his way back into the math.
