KC Chiefs Injuries: Multiple Players Go Down in Divisional Round vs. Buffalo Bills

Kansas City's injuries are beginning to pile up during Sunday's Divisional Round contest against the Bills.

Update: Andy Reid provided a postgame outlook on the Chiefs' injury situation.

Entering the Kansas City Chiefs' Divisional Round matchup against the Buffalo Bills, injuries were a major storyline. Unfortunately for the visitors (as well as the hosts), things got even worse once the game got rolling.

In the first half of play alone, Kansas City saw multiple players suffer apparent injuries. Safety Mike Edwards, linebacker Willie Gay Jr. and cornerback Trent McDuffie all left the outing at various points.

For Edwards, he had to leave after a third-down collision with Buffalo wide receiver Stefon Diggs in the first quarter. Following a trip to the on-side blue medical tent, the veteran safety went back to the locker room and was later ruled out. Edwards is officially in the NFL's concussion protocol.

Earlier in the week, head coach Andy Reid praised Edwards for various traits he's displayed during his first season with the team.

“He’s a heck of a football player and really, that’s what he is," Reid said. "You’re going to look at him and you’re not going to say that he’s the fastest guy, the biggest guy, strongest guy or any of that. He just knows how to play the game, he’s got great instincts, smart, smart kid. Tough.”

Gay left the game in the first half of play due to a neck injury. The team initially ruled him questionable to return. Gay, in his fourth year with the team, was added to the injury report with a neck ailment on Saturday. At the time, there was little reported concern that the former second-round pick would miss Sunday's game. He indeed made the start, although getting hurt in the first 30 minutes of play with the same designation is never a good thing.

To start the third quarter, the Chiefs downgraded Gay to OUT.

McDuffie appeared to suffer a foot or ankle injury during a second-quarter Bills drive but returned to the field later on. He was present for Buffalo's possession that started with just over three minutes left in the first half. The in-game broadcast described it as an ankle sprain that got taped up.

Update: Early in the third quarter, left guard Joe Thuney was ruled questionable to return with a chest injury

Arrowhead Report will continue to provide updates on the Chiefs' Sunday injuries, with additional clarity potentially coming either during or after the game.
