Recent reports that the Kansas City Chiefs are nearing extensions with head coach Andy Reid and general manager Brett Veach sparked a question: are they the greatest top duo in Chiefs history?

The answer is simple: yes.

For more on this topic, listen to today’s episode of Roughing the Kicker where Arrowhead Report’s Jordan Foote and I discuss the extensions and what they mean for the Chiefs’ budding dynasty.

As the saying goes, numbers never lie, so let's first dive into the numbers. Since arriving in Kansas City in 2013, Reid has gone 77-35 with a 5-5 playoff record while making the postseason six out of seven seasons. Big Red has also won four straight AFC West crowns and has gone 27-3 against divisional opponents since 2015.

Reid’s 77 wins are good enough for third on the all-time list behind legends Hank Stram and Marty Schottenheimer, but his winning percentage is the best in the franchise.

Veach took over for John Dorsey following the 2017 NFL Draft but has been with the team since Reid took over in 2013. Veach was instrumental in bringing in players such as safety Tyrann Mathieu, defensive tackle Mike Pennel and defensive end Frank Clark to help solidify the defense after a shaky 2018 season.

While Veach got a late start with Reid, the proof has shown up on the field. Since the duo started together in 2017, the Chiefs have claimed three AFC West titles, an AFC Championship and a Super Bowl Championship.

While no other duo's achievements compare, the modern-day manipulation of the cap puts Veach in a league of his own and the sure-fire Hall of Fame coach on the sideline makes the pair the best in franchise history.
