Three Things the Chiefs Can do to Ensure a Win Against the Patriots

For the first time since the 2018 AFC Championship Game, the New England Patriots will travel to Kansas City to take on the Chiefs at 3:25 p.m. on Sunday. PatriotMaven's Devon Clements and Arrowhead Report's Tucker Franklin preview the matchup on today's episode of Roughing the Kicker.

For the first time since the 2018 AFC Championship Game, the New England Patriots will travel to Kansas City to take on the Chiefs at 3:25 p.m. on Sunday.

But instead of quarterback Tom Brady leading the Patriots into Arrowhead Stadium, it will be quarterback Cam Newton.

I previewed the game with PatriotMaven's Devon Clements on today's episode of Roughing the Kicker. Here are my three keys to the game if the Chiefs want to come out on top.

1. Win the turnover battle

While this hasn't been a big enough deal for the Chiefs, turnovers might be the only thing that can stop their offense. Despite the ball over against the Baltimore Ravens last week, the Chiefs were able to move onto a victory. For Kansas City to truly ensure commanding a win, they need to hold onto the ball.

2. Contain Cam Newton's mobility

We saw the Chiefs contain Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson for the most part and they will be tasked to do the same thing with Newton. His dual-threat ability gives the Patriots offense and Josh McDaniels something they haven't had in 19 years, a quarterback that can make plays on the ground.

3. Get the offense moving early

While this wasn't a problem against Baltimore either, thoughts of the Los Angeles Chargers game dance in the back of my mind. The Patriots secondary isn't the toughest the Chiefs will see all year but the threat of Devin McCourty is still there. Getting points early can stifle any confidence New England has in the beginning.
