BREAKING: Washington Commanders Trade DE Montez Sweat to Chicago Bears
LANDOVER, Md. -- The Washington Commanders are making a big splash ahead of today's 4 p.m. trade deadline.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Commanders are trading defensive end Montez Sweat to the Chicago Bears for a 2024 second-round pick.
New ownership led by Commanders managing partner Josh Harris has to decide if the current path is worth traveling or if there needs to be a detour.
That decision wasn't originally expected to be made until after this regular season but with a disappointing first half of the year, it appears changes could be coming, and trade talks around defensive end Montez Sweat have picked up tons of steam in the last few days.
Even if only from the outside.
"I'm not going to answer any questions on personnel," coach Ron Rivera said Sunday night following Washington's loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. "I'll talk about the game we just played...I'm not going to get into personnel."
Washington Commanders defensive ends Montez Sweat (90) and Chase Young (99) may have played their last game together with the franchise that drafted them.

Notably, Sweat was the last Washington player off the field after losing to the Eagles and appeared to be fighting back emotions as he was asked about the possibility of being split from fellow defensive end Chase Young who has become like a brother during the years they've played together.
"That's my brother, man," Young said when asked about the possibility he's played his last game with the Commanders with Sweat. "Twin towers, we are rocking for life. That's not going to change if we aren't on the same team."
The brotherhood of football goes beyond logos and uniforms certainly, and things are constantly changing.
Now, Sweat joins the Bears, who will have the chance to sign him to a lucrative extension this offseason.
