The Washington Redskins have one more practice before Sunday's tilt with the Dallas Cowboys. Friday will be a big day as several key contributors remain questionable with various injuries, with the defensive backs being hit particularly hard. Jordan Reed once again was limited on Thursday while Jonathan Allen remains out. One player who's ready to strap on the pads, Adrian Peterson, will be making his season debut, and is excited even if his pal Trent Williams won't be out there to block for him anytime soon.

Williams' name is staying on the mind of fans around the country, with a new base, the Cleveland Browns  joining the list of pursuers. If any starting left tackle goes down this weekend, Williams' name will immediately come up. The longer he stays away from the Redskins, the louder the talk will get. While the team awaits news on several of their stars, Jay Gruden didn't hide how excited he is about rookie Terry McLaurin, who  he says they should've drafted in the first round, not the third.

Guice traveled Thursday to meet with famed knee surgeon, Dr. James Andrews for a second opinion on his knee injury, with immediate surgery as one option on the table. Following their meeting Guice made the decision to go forward with surgery, a trimming of his meniscus, which will hopefully give him a short enough recovery time to avoid the Injured Reserve.

With Guice through surgery and on the road to recovery the Redskins will lean hard on Adrian Peterson and Chris Thompson until the dynamic second year back can return to the lineup. The question becomes, 'what's do they do now?' Redskin Maven presents five logical ideas, starting with standing pat with what they have.

With Quinton Dunbar DNP, and Fabian Moreau limited at practice Thursday, the Redskins are lacking in the back end. Jay Gruden said that Jimmy Moreland may have to play outside in addition to his nickel duties from Week 1. With the Cowboys' newly revamped passing offense rolling into town, Sunday will be a good test of just how deep the Redskins secondary rolls.

The Redskins sent a plane south to provide aid to The Bahamas in the aftermath of Hurricane Dorian. The Redskins Charitable Foundation also has a silent auction going on right now, with proceeds going out to local youth programs in the D.C. area.

"Funds raised will support our youth programs throughout the region. The Redskins Charitable Foundation is ever-present in the community, constantly working to achieve our mission to make a positive and measurable impact in the lives of children that need it most. Since Redskins owners Dan and Tanya Snyder created the Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation in 2000, we have given back more than $26M to the community and currently provide support and services to more than 178,000 individuals (mostly children) annually, focusing on supporting education, children’s health and wellness and preparing them for their future."

The hope here was that the bond between Williams and Peterson might lead to the big man coming back to help out, but at this point that remains unlikely. Peterson agreed when asked about Williams and the impact he might have on the thought process.

"He's a man," Peterson explained. "He makes his decisions, and me being back at starting running back or whatever is not going to affect the way that he feels."

Cleveland Browns trade chatter: What would Redskins’ Trent Williams cost? :: Factory of Sadness

Seemingly half the teams in the NFL could use a better left tackle than they already have, and you can rest assured that every time a starter goes down the name 'Trent Williams' will almost immediately come up. When the Texans traded two first-rounders and change for Laremy Tunsil it set a president, and Redskins could expect a haul in return if Williams were ever traded, even in spite of his advanced age.

The Cowboys are the road favorite coming in, and get the nod on the prediction with a 23-20 win, but the indication is that the Redskins will be close enough to snatch a victory, just as they were with the Eagles in Week 1.

"Dallas (-4.5, -121) opens this game as big favorites on the road in Washington. However, that may be too many points: The Redskins (+4.5, -110) proved to be at least competent last week against the Eagles in Philadelphia. Home underdogs usually do well early in the season, especially against divisional rivals. I'm expecting this to be a close game, with the Redskins covering late against the Cowboys."

It's safe to say the head coach is a fan of rookie wide receiver Terry McLaurin. After his Week 1 output of five catches, 125 yards and one long bomb touchdown, the speedster is ready to make his impact not just on Gruden, but on the entire NFL. The Ohio State product was selected in the third round in 2019, but Gruden's thankful he fell that far.
