The Washington Redskins continue the preparation for a Monday Night Football showdown with the Chicago Bears, and the do so without some of their most prominent players present for practice. Alliteration is fun, kids. Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie is lost to injured reserve alongside Derrius Guice. Trent Williams still shows no signs of showing up any time soon. The Redskins' best defensive lineman Jonathan Allen remains unable to practice as does tight end Jordan Reed. The trainer's room better buy an extra ice machine.

While injuries are a concern for the Redskins, ability seems to be the concern for the Bears. Starting quarterback Mitch Trubisky has some serious work to do if he's going to keep the faith in Chicago. The Bears offense has started slow, but their defense has been great. They'll now face a Redskins team that has show promise on offense in each of the first two weeks.

Mitch Trubisky's offense is in serious trouble, Redskins defense could use the break :: Redskin Maven

The Redskins get a blessing in Week 3 in that the Bears offense is plain old bad. Th Bears had to squeak out a win over Joe Flacco and the Broncos in Week 2, and don't appear to match up well with the Redskins defense, at least on paper. If Trubisky's woes continue, the Redskins had better take advantage of the opportunity, and if they don't, then it could be a long night on Monday Night Football.

"In some ways, this game will pit the unstoppable force vs the immovable object. Will Trubisky's struggles continue, or will the Redskins defense be just what the doctor ordered? A strength turned weakness would be enough to cripple just about any player, but this could be the perfect game for Trubisky to bounce back. I'm not betting on it though."

Redskins' Landon Collins on Giants GM Dave Gettleman: 'He's a liar. He lied to everybody' :: USA Today

Collins was surprised when the Giants didn't pursue signing him to a new deal, after all the young strong safety made the Pro Bowl each of the last three years. The fact that Gettleman not only failed to offer him a deal, but failed to communicant with him that they wouldn't be has left Collins with score to settle, something he's ready to do when the two sided face up in Week 4.

"When that week comes down, that’s when I’m going to let that loose," the 25-year-old said. "I’m over it. But once that week comes, all that aggression is going to come back."

“People got confused when I was talking about the Giants,” Collins clarified. “I’m strictly talking about Dave Gettleman.”

Redskins' season could hinge on beating Bears :: ESPN

After two straight divisional losses to begin the season, the Redskins need this one. The fans need a win, the players need a win, the organization needs a win, but perhaps more than anyone else, Jay Gruden needs a win.

"He's in his sixth season with one playoff appearance and no postseason wins. The clock ticks louder on his tenure with every loss. The Redskins also started 0-2 in 2016 en route to an 8-7-1 season in which they missed the playoffs because of a season-finale loss. If Gruden needs a playoff appearance to save his job, he should know this stat: Since 1990, of 136 teams to start 0-3, only four have made the postseason, according to ESPN Stats & Information research."

We all know that Montez Sweat has struggled as a pass rusher, but he's been solid in the run game. :: Pro Football Focus

The Redskins 1st-round pick has had a few highs, and few lows so far this season, including a senseless roughing-the-passer penalty on Dak Prescott in Week 2. In spite of the fact that he hasn't been getting home on the pass rush, he's been able to shed and stuff on run defense quite nicely.

Redskins' Jordan Reed still dealing with concussion :: John Keim

Reed has struggled with injuries throughout his career and the symptoms of his most recent concussion has not yet subsided enough to allow him back to practice. There is no timetable with concussions, so the team will have to wait. All signs point toward Reed missing Week 3.

Jonathan Allen, Jordan Reed both miss Redskins practice, are uncertain for Bears game :: The Washington Post

Joining Reed on the sidelines Thursday is the Allen, the Redskins best defensive lineman, and another pivotal piece to their 2019 hopes. Friday will be the day to keep an eye on, with most teams unwilling to activate players for game day if they haven't at least practiced once during the week. The Redskins get an extra day of prep with the game coming on Monday Night Football in Week 3, so maybe, just maybe Allen can make it back.

Redskins’ PR boss Tony Wyllie exits after nine years with the team and a whole lot of controversies :: Awful Announcing

Wyllie is headed to work for a good cause with the Special Olympics, but his time in Washington cannot be looked back on without recognizing the controversies that came to pass while he headed PR for the Redskins. Any PR executive faces scrutiny based on the sheer premise of their job, but Wyllie constantly stubbed his toes while with the Redskins.
