The Washington Redskins booted up for practice on Wednesday without their starting quarterback, Case Keenum. The current lead-dog at QB was a non-participant in practice, and was seen wearing a walking boot. While Keenum was out, Colt McCoy was back in as a full participant alongside fellow backup Dwayne Haskins. All indications lead toward Keenum playing Sunday, the real question is who Jay Gruden likes in the No. 2 slot.

Terry McLaurin is up for another accolade, as the rookie continues to shine on game days. McLaurin will look to hook up with whoever's under center when they take on the New York Gianst at 1:00 PM on Sunday. That game provides an opportunity not just for the QB's, but for both Landon Collins and Ereck Flowers to stick it to their former employer.

Case Keenum did not practice on Wednesday, and could be seen in a walking boot. The news might lead one to hope that Dwayne Haskins is in line for his first start, but reports indicate that the plan is still to have Keenum ready and under center come Sunday.

Keenum was not the only absentee from practice as Jordan Reed and Brandon Scherff were also DNP's. The surprise of the week has been the Full-Participation return of Colt McCoy. The quarterback room is full once again.

As for the idea Haskins is ready to take on the full duty of starting quarterback, he spoke to the difficulty backups have in getting prepared.

Daniel Jones provides Giants hope, Redskins need to generate pressure :: Redskin Maven

The key to flustering any quarterback is pressure up the middle, and that fact is only magnified when that quarterback happens to be a rookie. The Redskins haven't been gettin home on the quarterback in 2019, ranking 30th out of the 32 NFL teams in defensive hits on the quarterback per dropback. Clearly, that'll need to change Sunday.

"Without question, Jones provided a spark and energy to the New York Giants. The troublesome aspect of this past Sunday was that Jones was hit 11 times, five of which resulted in sacks. That means that Jones was hit on about 24% of his dropbacks."

Terry McLaurin is the second player since 1970 with at least 60 receiving yards, 1 TD in first three games :: Washington Redskins

The bright spot in the Redskins season so far has been the emergence of rookie 3rd-round pick, McLaurin. The Redskins are more than prepared to hype something positive, the whole organization needs a win right about now. McLaurin, PFF's top graded rookie in the whole NFL is up for Rookie of the Week and the team is encouraging fans to vote for him.

Redskins among clean pocket leaders, QB Pressure Rate :: NFL Matchup

The Redskins haven't failed to score points, they've just failed to put it all together over 60 minutes and come away with a win. One area they are excelling in is QB Pressure Rate.

Landon Collins was a ‘'pain in the a--’ with Giants | Why Redskins valued him very differently than Dave Gettleman :: NJ.com

Collins gets a crack at his former squad in Week 4, and so does Ereck Flowers for what it's worth. Collins was famously not pursued by Gettleman and the Giants after being named to the previous three Pro Bowls. Jay Gruden explains what the Redskins saw in Collins, and why they're glad he's on their side now.

“We wanted him because he was a pain in the a--, really, with the Giants,” coach Jay Gruden said. He had a lot of tackles in the box. I thought he could play out in space. He is one of the top safeties in the league, and we had a need for safety. I thought it was a no-brainer to go and try to get him, and we got him, thankfully.”

Josh Norman is being picked on by opponents, and it's hurting the Redskins :: Washington Post

When Norman was signed it was another splashy deal for Dan Snyder and crew, they were getting a top end cornerback in his prime, ready to lock down No. 1 receivers league wide, most especially Dez Bryant. Flash forward to 2019, Bryant's out of the league and Norman is losing his powers. He's been a target of opposing teams in each of the first three games, responding occasionally with a great play, but more often getting beat.

Jay Gruden’s Struggles in Washington Are Nearing a Breaking Point :: MMQB

List

Gruden may not be the ultimate problem in Washington, but its his responsibility to win in spite of whatever odds he's facing. It'll be his call to eventually start Dwayne Haskins, if he makes it that long. At some point ownership is going to want the future franchise QB under center, and sooner rather than later Gruden is going to need a spark and some success in order to keep his job.
