News: Jonathan Allen, Derrius Guice knee deep in it
Week 1 is in the books, and while the Washington Redskins are 0-1, they did a lot of good things in their matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles. Quarterback, Case Keenum played his rear off in the first half, leading the Redskins out to a 20-7 lead. Unfortunately for Keenum, Derrius Guice and the rest of the offense, the Eagles pushed back in the second half and stole a "W".
With Guice and defensive end Jonathan Allen hurting on the sideline, the Eagles took advantage of a banged up Redskins team en route to their 32-27 victory. The Redskins, still waiting on Jordan Reed and holdout Trent Williams to return, will not have to hold their breath as they await MRI's on knee injuries for both Guice and Allen. If Guice suffers an extended absence, the Redskins will look to last year's leading rusher, the ageless Adrian Peterson. Though Peterson's still smarting from the smack served square across his face by the Redskins coaching staff, who left him off the active roster in Week 1. Peterson looks to get first crack at the Dallas Cowboys defensive front in Week 2.

Here we go again. Guice, injured tore his left ACL last year, also hurt his right knee in college at LSU, and that's the one giving him his issues following the Week 1 loss to the Eagles. Guice is likely to miss time, opening the door pack up for the recently scorn Adrian Peterson. Peterson rushed for 1000 yards last year, and the Redskins will lean on him once more.

The Redskins have a speedster on their hands, as the dynamic McLaurin hit the turbo boosters on his way to the end-zone on his 70-yard touchdown catch on Sunday.
"McLaurin showcased his blazing speed, but also his improved hands and ability to win contested catches. When Washington's offense was humming in the first half, he was the key cog, catching three balls for 104 yards."

First Star: Case Keenum. Keenum came out firing, and proved why he's the Redskin's best chance to win right now.
"Keenum's ability to extend plays out of the pocket will be a catalyst for the Redskins offense. It will also provide opportunities for his young receivers to make plays."

Allen will undergo an MRI on his reportedly sprained MCL. Th Redskins's 2017 first round pick had eight sacks in 2018 and was ready for a breakout campaign in 2019. For Allen and Redskins faithful, he'll hope the results of the test give him an opportunity to do just that.
"Before Washington fans freak out too much consider that MRIs are fairly standard in the NFL, and they usually happen about 24 hours after an injury to allow for swelling to go down."

As the Redskins look to fill in the pieces, they let Davis go ahead of Week 1, needing extra help at TE once Jordan Reed was marked officially "out." Luckily Davis has cleared waivers and the Redskins added him back to the practice squad for the league minimum.
"Davis made an amazing comeback from a broken leg and multiple torn ligaments. He made the team after catching multiple touchdowns in the preseason. Now he gets a chance to stay with the team after clearing waivers, and stay ready for his next chance to make the 53-man roster. "

Davis found himself in the TE1 spot with Jordan Reed missing Sunday's game with the remnants of his pre-season concussion. With Reed out, Davis got an early opportunity and made the most of it, hurdling a defender on his way to a 48-yard touchdown, just one day after losing his grandfather.

The Redskins aren't as bad as some of the pundits would have us believe. They took a halftime lead into the locker room against the team most of those same pundits chose to win the Super Bowl this year. Yes, they wore down at the end of the game, particularly on defense, but there are going to win games this year, leave no doubt about it.
"For about 30 minutes of football on Sunday, Washington looked like a dynamic team capable of putting up points and shutting down offenses. Keenum, who finished the game 30-for-45 with 380 yards and three touchdowns, looked to be much more than a game manager, and his ability to throw the ball downfield sparked joy and confidence across Redskins Nation."

Adrian Peterson and his veteran teammates were reportedly dumbstruck and ultimately angered but his deactivation on Sunday. What was effectively a benching didn't play well in the locker room. Now the Redskins will have to turn to Peterson to pick up the pieces if Derrius Guice has to miss extended time with a knee injury.
"Peterson helped Washington in a big way last season when Guice suffered the torn ACL and missed his entire rookie season. Peterson rushed for 1,042 yards last season with seven touchdowns, adding 20 catches for 208 yards and another TD.
“I’m 13 years in, and I’ve still got it. I’ve shown that, of course. I can play the game,” Peterson said Sunday."

The Redskins made strides Sunday, now they'll look to build on that as the Dallas Cowboys come to town. The Cowboys looked good against the Giants, but the Redskins defense is stacked with playmakers ready for the challenge.
"Figuring out how to compensate for the loss of Allen and how to better mitigate in-game adjustments are all part of a full platter. Potentially getting tight end Jordan Reed back after another concussion should only help, but the film of Dallas shredding the New York Giants in Week 1 will make this a busy week for the coaching staff."
