'Toxic' Cowboys? Dallas Ripped for NFL's 'Worst' Offseason by RGIII

The Dallas Cowboys have had a suboptimal offseason, and the national media has taken notice. Former rival quarterback Robert Griffin III pulled no punches.

The Dallas Cowboys will always be in the news cycle. As America’s Team, they’re the most loved, the most hated, and the headline of seemingly every national football show in the country.

You get the drill by now.

Admittedly, sometimes the hype – or criticism – is warranted. Dallas has a track record of stagnation, and under the most scrutiny of any team in the league, its quiet offseason deserves the feedback it has received.

On ESPN’s “Get Up,” former rival quarterback Robert Griffin III ripped the Cowboys for an offseason that has been nothing but punitive for their fans.

“The Dallas Cowboys have had the worst offseason in the NFL,” Griffin said. “You can’t be all in on your team if you’re all out on your three best players. You’ve already lost significant pieces to your offensive line, depth pieces to your defense, so I don’t understand what their goal is right now.

“What is the goal for the Cowboys? Are they trying to change their culture? Are they trying to change the narrative about them being all about ball and winning a championship? Because right now, they don’t have any situational awareness.”

Dallas hasn’t just been quiet on the free-agent front. Owner Jerry Jones has been loud in his hesitation to hand out contracts to his biggest stars. First, the Cowboys weren’t willing to make the room to retain left tackle Tyron Smith. Quarterback Dak Prescott is yet to receive an extension, despite an incredible 2023 campaign. Now, receiver CeeDee Lamb and edge rusher Micah Parsons are ready for raises, and Dallas isn’t exactly jumping at the opportunity.

“And for the Cowboys to come out and say they’re not going to give Dak Prescott a new contract, have him play it out,” Griffin continued. “You got reports that they don’t like Micah Parsons, and now you have this one about CeeDee Lamb. If their goal was to change the narrative and make it about winning then they’re failing miserably.

“The Cowboys are acting like a toxic partner right now.”

With the NFL Draft on deck, Dallas will be tasked with placing a Band-Aid over this roster’s losses, whether it be in the trenches or replenishing pieces of the back seven. It’s a strategy that seems unlikely to work in an NFC that’s only improving.

Caught in the middle, of course, are the Cowboys fans entering every year with an asterisk attached to their hope.

“I know the fans have to be tired of this circus that they’re constantly having to go through with the Dallas Cowboys,” Griffin sympathized. “I don’t understand their methods right now because it’s not focused on winning, it’s about all the distractions happening around the team.”
