FRISCO - The Dallas Cowboys' chase of a trade for star safety Jamal Adams went to the the 3 p.m. CT deadline buzzer without Dallas and the New York Jets being able to agree on a price.

Adams tweeted over the weekend that he is "Leaving it in God's hands.' ... and now he remains in the Jets' hands rather in the the hands of his hometown Cowboys team that the Carrollton native reportedly wished very much to join.

The two sides took this to the cusp of the NFL trade deadline, with the media playing its usual "close/not-close'' game ... but most of what was accurate throughout the last two days is that on Monday this was not a "front-burner issue'' but that on Tuesday it became one, with New York asking for a "high price'' (more than a first-round pick, obviously) to complete a blockbuster trade on the heels of what Dallas had already done in that department in the last 12 months, having acquired Pro Bowlers Amari Cooper, Robert Quinn and Michael Bennett.

Adams came into the NFL in the 2017 NFL Draft as the sixth overall pick. He’s an LSU product with an intense style and a Pro Bowl resume at just age 24. He would've represented a significant upgrade over Jeff Heath while plugging in alongside Xavier Woods.‬ But now? Dallas will move forward with the roster that's gotten it to 4-3, plus Bennett, as it heads to the Big Apple to oppose the other New York team, the Giants, on Monday Night Football.

Noteworthy, though: If the Jets are truly clearing out "old-regime'' starts, and Dallas and Adams wish to be together ... this concept is almost certain to be revisited, as New York has contractual control for two more seasons over a standout player ... who the Cowboys wanted/want on some level.
