FRISCO – Michael Gallup practiced for the first time in three weeks on Wednesday, and while he told the media that he "did a couple reps, not a whole lot,'' a source termed his return from recent knee surgery and his practice work "impressive.''

That's a great start to Dallas' injury-related plans for Thursday's workout, which also will include an at-best limited return of La'el Collins, the right tackle who sat out Wednesday with back soreness.

"We don't anticipate La'el Collins doing much today,'' coach Jason Garrett said.

That condition caused the Cowboys to do some temporary shuffling along the O-line (see story here), but ultimately, I'm told, the medical staff believes Collins will be fine for Sunday's visit from the Green Bay Packers.

Meanwhile, left tackle Tyron Smith (ankle) is slated to miss this game, but Tyron tells me his replacement, Cameron Fleming, will be fine, too.

Said Tyron: "Yeah, we will do classroom stuff and film-study stuff. But I don't know how much Cam needs that from me. He'll be more than fine.'' (Read my exclusive story here.)

In other Thursday morning injury news: Tyrone Crawford (hips), is not expected to work. Headlining those listed as "limited'' so far this week is DeMarcus Lawrence with an issue with his knee and his shoulder and ... anything else?

OK. A heel bruise, too.

Also among the likely limirted: Chris Jones (back), Zack Martin (back), Antwaun Woods (knee) and Amari Cooper (foot/ankle) ... and stay tuned for my Exclusive Video Visit with Amari coming up.

Overall, the situation is fairly positive, all of it buoyed by the hoped-for return to game action of Gallup.

“It’s going to swell for a while, but not enough to keep me from starting to play,” said Gallup, who will likely be listed as "limited'' after today's work. “The doctor said my knee is fine. I can’t really do (damage) to it. It's just I’ve got to get it through my head that I can do it.”
