FRISCO - The projections are not revelations and the numbers are not new.

As we've discussed at CowboysSI.com for months, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott seems destined to become the highest-paid player in NFL history … with the playoff failure against Green Bay being weighed against Dak's MVP-level performance in 2023 as an obstacle in negotiations that we’ve reported both sides are “ready” to launch.

When did we make the point that this next could make him “the NFL's highest-paid player. ... ever”?

That was in March 2023. And since then, Joe Burrow, Justin Herbert, Lamar Jackson and Jalen Hurts have all surpassed the $50 million mark. And now?

Colleague Jordan Schultz is reporting that we should expect Dak to approach $60 million APY, a deal that would “re-set the market.”

Schultz isn’t breaking new ground here. But his trusted voice confirms what we’ve reported … while conflicted with an odd ESPN take that suggests we should not anticipate a “swift” decision while creating a timetable of “six months” …

Which we don’t understand at all.

We have outlined the Cowboys’ options here. They are obliged to pay Prescott in this way. The negotiations could go awry. The Cowboys could opt to hold his lack of playoff success against him and not budge, while risking a scenario in which they cut off their nose to spite their face

"Dak will be our quarterback,” COO Stephen Jones has repeatedly said, and it’s true. And he might become a market-re-setting $60 million APY QB, too … whether Cowboys Nation likes it or not.
