SANTA CLARA, Calif. - In the latest episode of the “Best Coast Boys” podcast, hosts Landon McCool and Dallas Morning News contributor John Owning give their review of the last week ofDallas Cowboys training camp along with a position by position review of their preseason game against the San Francisco 49ers.

After the pleasantries, the guys dive into their takeaways from practice and the recent preseason game. They start at the QB position, where they detail Dak Prescott’s performance while also combating the narrative that Cooper Rush struggled.

From there, they go to the WR position. Landon raves about Michael Gallup’s performance while John details why Jon’Vea Johnson’s drops should be cause for concern. After that, they discuss Tony Pollard’s performance with the first team and why it should be encouraging for fans. The guys also discuss the tight end and offensive line position groups, with specific mentions of Blake Jarwin, Mitch Hyatt (he struggled), Travis Frederick and Cameron Fleming.

The guys then move to the defensive side of the ball, discussing Joe Jackson’s impressive performance while also discussing Trysten Hill’s technical issues that are hurting his ability to contribute at a high level. Landon praises Luke Gifford play and offers a solution for what Dallas should do with him since he got injured. They also discussed Jaylon Smith’s typical performance along with the rest of the reserve LB units. The guys then discussed the most and least impressive members of the secondary. Landon gives a surprise answer for a safety who impressed him.

The guys finish the show by discussing Brett Maher’s struggled under 40 yards and whether Dallas needs to invest in some more competition for the kicker position.
