Cowboys Trevon Diggs and Stephon Gilmore; Best CB Tandem in NFL?
There is no denying the star power on this Dallas Cowboys defense.
With rising superstars in "Lion-backer" Micah Parsons and cornerback Trevon Diggs, along with experienced Pro Bowlers in Leighton Vander Esch and DeMarcus Lawrence, Dan Quinn's unit has all the making of a dominant force once again.
And by signing former Defensive Player of the Year cornerback Stephon Gilmore, Dallas has a legitimate chance to repeat in takeaways, just as they have over the past two seasons.
NFL Live analyst Ryan Clark recently ranked the top-five cornerback duos in the league, slotting the Cowboys in the No. 2 spot - above the New York Jets but below the Miami Dolphins.
"Stephon Gilmore, former Defensive Player of the Year a guy who can still do it at a high level," Clark said. "And then you have Trevon Diggs on the other side, who's absolutely been going crazy."
And Clark isn't wrong by saying Diggs has been going crazy over his first three careers seasons. Already a two-time Pro Bowler, the 2021 interception leader has totaled 195 tackles and 17 picks through 45 career games.
With the addition of a five-time Pro Bowler in Gilmore, who the Cowboys acquired in exchange for a compensatory fifth-round selection in the 2023 NFL Draft, the 33-year-old brings experience, a respected track record, but most importantly a "win-now" mentality.
If defense is "the star of the show," as former New England Patriot Tedy Bruschi said on NFL Live last week, the cornerback tandem of Diggs and Gilmore is as good a place to start as any.
