Dallas Cowboys BREAKING: Tyron Smith to Sign with Aaron Rodgers’ New York Jets

FRISCO - The Dallas Cowboys’ “open door” for Tyron Smith just closed. And so does an era of greatness for “America’s Team.”

It was essentially a foregone conclusion. … though it took a few days into NFL free agency ... but perennial Pro Bowl left tackle Tyron is leaving, as if Friday, with an NFL Network report that he is signing with Aaron Rodgers’ New York Jets.

"The door is open," said COO Stephen Jones on Thursday before ladling on the praise. "Tyron Smith is gonna be a Hall of Fame football player. He's had an amazing career and we certainly haven't shut the door on a continued career here in Dallas. ... He's ... one of the greatest left tackles to play the game. No one feels better about Tyron Smith than this organization.''

But a deal-breaker probably still loomed that prevented a reunion .

While no other team has blown away Tyron with an offer, the Cowboys are clearly in "one-year contract'' mode.

Because we bet the Dallas Cowboys - with our theoretical "Blow It Up!'' rebuild looming - were not wanting to  give the 33-year-old Tyron Smith much … and maybe not a multi-year deal. … he kept looking.

Word is the Jets’ offer is for one year … but is a lucrative one.

The 1 Thing To Change Cowboys Mind About Signing Tyron

Smith, who has spent the last 13 seasons here earning eight Pro Bowl nods, five All-Pro team honors and a spot on the NFL's 2010s All-Decade Team, has been spectacular here. We also know, as CowboysSI.com has reported often, that Tyron's bond with the Jones family is a special one.

But he’s got a new job now: to develop a bond working in front of long-time Dallas nemesis Aaron Rodgers.
