BREAKING! Cowboys Select TE Luke Schoonmaker in Second Round

The Dallas Cowboys made their first pick on Day 2 of the NFL Draft, filling a need at tight end with Michigan's Luke Schoonmaker.

The Dallas Cowboys added to their tight-end room on Day 2, selecting Luke Schoonmaker of Michigan with the No. 58 overall pick.

SI Draft Bible says Schoonmaker is "an athletic tight end who isn't afraid to mix it up in the run game, the only thing missing for Schoonmaker is production, which is sure to come with more opportunities."

Despite dealing with an AC joint injury, Schoonmaker stepped up for the Wolverines in the place of the injured Erick All, recording 418 yards and 3 touchdowns on 35 receptions while playing in 12 games as a fifth-year senior.

The Cowboys passed on tight ends in the first round as they opted to select Mazi Smith, the nose tackle also out of Michigan, to beef up their interior defensive line with the No. 26 overall pick. Ultimately the Cowboys didn't wait much longer to add to their tight-end position, which already involves young options in Jake Ferguson and Peyton Hendershot.

Schoonmaker will hope to help Dallas fill the void of Dalton Schultz, who left the Cowboys in free agency for the Houston Texans.

"Long with brawny stature that carries his pads evenly throughout his body. Best role is a Y tight end or as the point man in a bunch set. Natural athlete that looks smooth in his movement patterns. Active lower body with fluidity that radiates from his hips to his feet," Draft Bible added about Schoonmaker in their evaluation.

The Cowboys will be on the clock again with the No. 90 pick in the third round.
