FRISCO - The Dallas Cowboys' involvement in the NFL’s Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship has been a fruitful one, and it seems another standout coach could be the latest addition to an impressive list.

William Gay, 38, the former Pittsburgh Steelers defensive back, is indicating he's been hired by the Cowboys to participate in the program.

“I didn’t get drafted this past weekend but his email definitely got me feeling like it’s 2007,” Gay wrote on Instagram.

Gay was the Steelers’ fifth-round draft pick in the 2007 NFL Draft and was a full-time starting defensive back in two stints with the team. He coached at Missouri State for a time and was a Steelers intern before reportedly taking a break from coaching to raise his son.

Sharrif Floyd, the 23rd overall pick of the 2013 NFL Draft, this offseason was hired by Dallas as an assistant defensive line/defensive quality control coach after having worked in the program a year ago. Over the years, former players like Leon Lett, Gary Brown and Tashard Choice have been products of the NFL program designed to promote diversity in hiring.

In Dallas, Gay - working under coordinator Dan Quinn and secondary coach Al Harris - has some standout talent with which to work, highlighted by Stephon Gilmore and Trevon Diggs, one of the top cornerback tandems in the NFL.
