Cowboys OTAs: More Substance, Less Style - Mike McCarthy Offense 'Will Be Better!'
The Dallas Cowboys have made several coaching changes this offseason, with the most significant being head coach Mike McCarthy installed as the play-caller and Brian Schottenheimer taking over from Kellen Moore as the offensive coordinator.
Under Moore, the Cowboys were a top-five offense as they put up numbers like crazy, but too often, costly penalties or a Dak Prescott interception stopped them in their tracks.
But will Dallas be a better team overall with McCarthy and Schottenheimer calling the shots? NFL analyst Mike Tannenbaum thinks so.
"I think the Cowboys are going to be better," Tannenbaum said on ESPN's GetUp. "They had a really efficient offseason …”
The ex-GM mentioned Stephon Gilmore and Brandin Cooks before turning philosophical.
“The coaching staff,” he said, “they're not going to score as many points, but they're going to be better. I worked with Brian Schottenheimer at the New York Jets; I know how they are going to approach the game. This will be a more difficult team to beat because they will have less self-inflicted wounds."
It’s a thought: the Cowboys next season might not be as flashy as before, but they might be a better football team as a result.
