Dallas Cowboys Offseason Trade for Miami Dolphins RB Raheem Mostert Urged By Media

FRISCO - A few days ago, we addressed in depth the Dallas Cowboys' philosophy when it comes to overpaying standout-but-aging running backs.

They didn't do it with NFL rushing champ DeMarco Murray.

They didn't do it with NFL rushing champ Ezekiel Elliott.

And here's a heads-up: They're not going to do it with Raheem Mostert, who at age 31 might very well become the 2023 NFL rushing champ as he stars for the Miami Dolphins ... who just happen to play host to Dallas this Sunday in NFL Week 16 on Christmas Eve.

Our pals at Bleacher Report see it differently.

But our pals at B/R are wrong if they think the Cowboys are going to tear up their documented mindset on the subject to overreach for Mostert. (Or for the Saints' Alvin Kamara, as we detail below.)

Mostert has been brilliant for Miami this year, as the Cowboys - who are presently reliant on running backs Tony Pollard and Rico Dowdle, both of whom are set to become free agents after this season - are about to find out.

Pollard makes $10 million for this season. We doubt Dallas will do that again. Dowdle makes $1 million; that's more palatable. And finding out if the other kids on the Cowboys roster (Malik Davis, Deuce Vaughn and Hunter Luepke) can play?

The Cowboys will definitely want to do that.

Meanwhile, what if the Dolphins want to make young De'Von Achane their No. 1 running back, usurping Mostert. That seems logical. But the two speedsters already share time this year. Why not do the same in 2024?

Would it be money? Nope, as Mostert is only scheduled to make $2.3 million next season.

We bet Dallas would bend its thoughts on too-old running backs if Mostert, at that price, was available for virtually nothing in a trade. ... and why?

That $2.3 million figure is an alluring one.

But isn't it alluring to Miami as well?

B/R writes, "Dallas could replicate exactly what Miami is doing this season with Mostert and Achane.'' Sure it could.

But we bet Miami would also like to replicate what Miami is doing with Mostert and Achane, you know?
