In any language, Jones family closing in on record-setting Cowboys contract for QB Dak Prescott
FRISCO - It is true that sometimes Jerry Jones speaks a lingo that is all his own. Nevertheless, no matter how they phrase it, the Dallas Cowboys front office continues plan on speaking the same exact contractual language with QB Dak Prescott very soon.
On Sunday, owner Jerry Jones termed a new deal with Prescott - a deal that will surely be the largest in franchise history - "imminent.''
On Monday, Cowboys COO Stephen Jones, who is the point man on these negotiations, told 105.3 The Fan that he might differ just a bit with his dad's verbiage.
“(Jerry),'' Stephen said, "has different meanings for different words.''
But a gigantic contract offer truly was on the table before Dak's perfect-QB-rating performance in Sunday's Week 1 drubbing of the Giants by a 35-17 score. And Prescott obviously didn't hurt his chances of today asking for a little bit more.
Said Stephen: "(Hopefully) we’ll put this in the rearview mirror sooner than later.”
Stephen continues to preach the idea of the benefits of signing with "America's Team,'' of each star making sure he's a piece of a puzzle, or as Jerry phrases it a piece of the "pie.''
“(Dak) knows how important it is that we get a deal that’s not only good for him but good for us, so we can keep the players that were making plays for him yesterday around.” Stephen said. “You have to pay those guys too, and he understands that.”
He understands that because after all is said and done -- and in the case of the outspoken Jerry, much is said and done -- Dak Prescott and the Joneses speak the same language.
