NFL Draft Prospect Lists Cowboys' CeeDee Lamb As Preferred Teammate

The Dallas Cowboys will spend the week at the Senior Bowl looking at potential 2024 NFL Draft selections. Arizona receiver Jacob Cowing may have his eye on Dallas, too.

The Senior Bowl offers teams an extended look at some of college football’s most intriguing prospects ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft.

Arizona Wildcats receiver Jacob Cowing is one such prospect, having finished his collegiate career on a high note. Arizona finished the season at 10-3 with Cowing leading the team with 13 receiving touchdowns.

Spending the week in Mobile, Cowing was asked what receivers he would most want to play with once an NFL team gives him the long-awaited call.

“I would say DK Metcalf, I’d definitely want to play with him,” Cowing said. “CeeDee Lamb is another one, I like to watch his game a lot. And Justin Jefferson, too, he’s awesome.”

Fortunately for Cowing, the Dallas Cowboys make a decent amount of sense. Receiver Michael Gallup struggled this season and Brandin Cooks, while reliable, isn’t the explosive deep threat he once was. Receiver Jalen Tolbert saw additional attention as the year progressed, as well.

However, none of Dallas’ receivers overlap with Cowing’s skill set enough to feign interest. Few receivers in this class share Cowing’s short-area burst and long speed. He’s one of the most explosive athletes on the board and will spend the pre-draft circuit proving to teams he’s a well-rounded target.

Cowing’s stock isn’t cemented but seems to be hovering around the end of Day 2 and the beginning of Day 3. In previous years, Cowing may not have garnered much attention at all.

The Arizona product weighed in at a minuscule 5-8, 165. That’s a first-percentile weight measurement and will inevitably scare certain teams off. Yet, last year saw Houston Texans receiver Tank Dell – who boasts a nearly identical frame – taken 69th overall. In just 11 games, Dell emerged as one of the most exciting young receivers in the sport, with 47 receptions, 709 yards, and seven scores.

Dell’s immediate success provides both a blueprint for how to use Cowing and the confidence for other teams to share when evaluating smaller receivers.

With a quarterback who’s more than willing to stretch the field, a downfield threat like Cowing could learn a thing or two from Lamb and carve out a role in the Cowboys’ offense.
