FRISCO - Dallas Cowboys linebacker Leighton Vander Esch is about to go national.

Clothing company Mizzen+Main will today announce a long-term partnership with Vander Esch, allowing him to join the likes of J.J. Watt, Kyler Murray, Jake Arietta and Phil Mickelson as endorsers of the brand.

Leighton will be featured in a new campaign called, "Starch is for potatoes. Not your dress shirts." The theme is intended to drive home the point that Mizzen+Main shirts require no dry cleaning or ironing. So, no starch. (Get it?) And of course it's a direct tie to Leighton's roots in Idaho and Boise State.

Vander Esch will also be the first Mizzen+Main ambassador to support the introduction of a new line of vests, which debut on Sept. 4. Mizzen+Main tells us, "The versatile vests are warm, not bulky, and great for travel. They are wind-resistant, ultra-soft and are machine-washable.''

This will be the first national marketing deal for Vander Esch, who exploded onto the NFL scene last season as the Cowboys' first-round pick. He moved into the starting lineup then, and now, teaming with Jaylon Smith and Sean Lee, is a centerpiece of what most experts will be among the league's finest linebacking groups.

In a sense, the marketability of Vander Esch is part of what the Jones ownership family has pushed as being a result of being involved with "America's Team.'' Jaylon Smith saw the benefits of that, among the reasons he signed his new extension last week. Lee also raves about being involved with owner Jerry Jones and family. And now Leighton Vander Esch is about to flex his muscles in the same manner.
