Can Dallas Cowboys Catch ‘Vulnerable’ Eagles? NFL Standings, Playoff Picture

Can the Dallas Cowboys Catch Jalen Hurts and the (Maybe) ‘Vulnerable’ Philadelphia Eagles? A New Look at the NFL Standings & NFC Playoff Picture

FRISCO - The Dallas Cowboys have developed a mindset philosophy of late - largely born of the realities they face when in competition with the NFL’s best team, the NFC East arch rival Philadelphia Eagles.

Defensive coordinator Dan Quinn recently told his guys to be the sprinter who does not bother looking into the other lanes. And then offensive leader Dak Prescott echoed those words in public.

“Let’s just run our own race,” the message goes.

OK. The 7-3 Cowboys are running … and winning. But the 9-1 Eagles - now coming off a pivotal “Monday Night Football” win at the Kansas City Chiefs - are running better and faster and out front.

Entering NFL Week 12, how do the Cowboys stack up in terms of catching the Eagles? And short of that, how is the NFC playoff picture unfolding?

The Eagles are essentially two games clear of the Cowboys, who in the NFC are presently the No. 5 playoff seed. The Lions are No. 2, the Niners No. 3, the Saints No. 4, the Seahawks No. 6 and the Vikings No. 7, so today's projection would have Dallas starting the playoffs at New Orleans.

Barring an unlikely Eagles collapse, and given the schedule, Dallas would likely to well to hold that spot. But if the Cowboys do "speed up'' in the standings? It'll be the result of "running their race.''
