NFL Free Agency: Eagles 'Bolster Depth' with Signing Bryan Edwards?

The Philadelphia Eagles could sign Bryan Edwards to improve their receiver depth.

The Philadelphia Eagles boast one of the best receiver duos in the NFL, but the team could always use a little more depth.

Bleacher Report suggests that the Eagles could sign free agent receiver Bryan Edwards, who spent part of training camp with the New Orleans Saints.

"While the Eagles have elite top-end talent, they'd be in trouble if Brown or Smith went down with an injury. They'd be left without a reliable outside receiver," Bleacher Report writes. "Bryan Edwards would be a cheap alternative who could bolster that depth."

Edwards, 24, was cut last month by the Saints but is still young enough to be excitable. He was a third-round pick in 2020 by the Raiders, so the talent is there.

The Atlanta Falcons released receiver Edwards in November, bringing his tenure with the team to a sudden close after just 11 games.

Signing Edwards would reunite him with his former teammate Marcus Mariota, whom he played with in Las Vegas and Atlanta.

On paper, Edwards was the full package; a young, ascending, controllable player who was taken in the third round in 2020. His departure from Las Vegas seemed to have far more to do with a new regime simply not viewing him as a fit than anything else.

He played in only seven of the Falcons' 11 games before being cut, drawing one start and logging 91 snaps - just 21 percent of the season-long total. Edwards was a healthy scratch four times, including two of the last three weeks. For the season, Edwards saw five targets, catching three for 15 yards.

Perhaps a fresh start with the Eagles could be what Edwards needs to find his footing again in the NFL.
