Former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz continues to be available in the free agent market following his release from the Washington Commanders after just one season in D.C.

However, CBS Sports believes that Carson Wentz's days as a free agent could be numbered, especially with Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow being carted off during Thursday's practice with a strained calf. The site speculates that Wentz's NFL experience could make him a potential target for the Bengals if Burrow were to miss time due to his injury.

"Patience may have been a virtue for the veteran, who has started 92 of 93 games played in his seven-year career," CBS Sports writes.

While Wentz's lone season with Washington proved to be challenging, as he started in only seven games and ended with a disappointing record of 2-5, he could still provide the Bengals with a significant upgrade over their existing quarterback depth. Currently, the Bengals' quarterback options behind Burrow feature Trevor Siemian and Jake Browning, who have a combined 30 career starts between them.

Even though this wouldn't be a full-time role for Wentz, the Bengals' talented offensive lineup suggests that he could effectively keep the team competitive while Burrow is out. While no one can completely replace Burrow, it does seem that Wentz offers the best opportunity to uphold the Bengals' competitiveness. Additionally, if Burrow cannot take the field, Wentz could use this opportunity to showcase to the rest of the NFL that he can still be a starting quarterback by stringing together some impressive performances.
