Eagles WATCH: D'Andre Swift Caps Off Career Night vs. Vikings With TD
In his first appearance as a Philadelphia Eagle, running back D'Andre Swift managed just two touches for three yards in a 25-20 Week 1 win over the New England Patriots.
But coming back to his hometown of Philly for his second game as an Eagle on Thursday seemed to light something beneath him, as Swift turned in a storybook-like performance as a result.
With Kenneth Gainwell out due to a rib injury, the Eagles backfield belonged to Swift, who rushed 28 times for a career-high 175 yards and one touchdown while adding three grabs for six yards in a 34-28 win over the Minnesota Vikings.
His touchdown sealed the deal for Philly in the late stages of the fourth quarter. Take a look:
The Eagles entered the season featuring four legitimate options in the backfield with Swift, Gainwell, Boston Scott and Rashaad Penny. It begged the question: will the Eagles have a 1,000-yard rusher this season?
"There can be," Swift said when asked during training camp. "There definitely can be, yes."
Presumably, Swift believes he's a candidate to be that guy, right?
"I think the amount of opportunity is endless for every guy in the room," he said during training camp. "We've got so much talent, not even in the room, on the offensive side of the ball. So it could come from anywhere."
"It could come from anywhere" didn't exactly hold true on Thursday, as the Vikings knew exactly who would be attacking them from the Philly backfield yet were defenseless against Swift on his career-best night.
The Eagles will have an extra long week before taking on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium on Monday, Sept. 25.
